The BASF Zhanjiang Integrated Site is located on Donghai Island in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, with a planned area of approximately 9 square kilometers. It is BASF’s largest overseas investment project to date, with a total investment of 10 billion euros. It is the first wholly foreign-owned project in China’s heavy chemical industry. Once completed, it will develop into BASF’s third-largest integrated production base globally (only after the Ludwigshafen and Antwerp sites in Germany and Belgium, respectively) [1] [12] [14]. The site’s supporting wharf has four berths, capable of accommodating vessels with a maximum deadweight of 120,000 tons [15]. Additionally, BASF has reached a 25-year renewable energy power purchase agreement with China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute to achieve the goal of 100% renewable energy supply by 2025 [17].
